Description

Gooseberryleaf globemallow is a perennial desert wildflower that blooms in late spring to early summer with numerous showy orange/red blossoms that attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Native to southwestern United States and northern Mexico, it is most commonly found in the low rainfall, semi-arid areas. It is very similar in appearance and adaptation to Munro Globemallow.

 

Gooseberryleaf globemallow is adapted to a wide range of soil types and textures and moderately alkali and saline soils. It is very cold-hardy and drought-tolerant. It is a palatable wildflower for many species of wildlife, including sage grouse. It is often used in landscaping and as an ornamental plant, as well as for erosion control and habitat restoration. Gooseberryleaf globemallow is an extremely valuable native forb for restoration of semi-arid disturbed lands in the west and low-water use landscaping.
